Nigeria Targets 30% Electrification of Health Facilities by 2027

The Nigerian federal government has set a target to electrify at least 30% of the country's health facilities by the end of 2027. This initiative was approved during the third meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee (IMSC) of the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative (NPHI), which is a presidential program coordinated by the Federal Ministries of Power and Health and Social Welfare.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Isiaq Salako, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, and co-chaired by Mr.

Joseph Tegbe, Minister of Power. The committee emphasized the need to transition from policy announcements to the execution of projects that enhance healthcare services.

The Rural Electrification Agency has already provided electricity to five federal teaching hospitals. The committee also approved a financing framework to attract investments for healthcare electrification and adopted an energy management framework for hospitals.

Eight private sector proposals were approved for further engagement from around 70 submissions received during a recent investor matchmaking event.
