EFL Disappointed with UEFA Over Fixture Clash

The English Football League (EFL) expressed disappointment with UEFA after being compelled to rearrange fixtures in the third round of the League Cup due to a scheduling conflict with the Champions League. Everton's home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers was initially scheduled for September 9.

However, UEFA scheduled Liverpool's Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid for the same evening. The EFL stated that logistical challenges for the police prevent both Liverpool and Everton from hosting home games on the same day.

On August 28, the EFL confirmed the Carabao Cup Round Three tie between Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers for September 9, following standard practice with local stakeholders. After UEFA's announcement on Saturday regarding the Liverpool match, the EFL met with UEFA officials on Monday to discuss options, but UEFA was unwilling to reschedule the Liverpool fixture due to concerns about the impact on overseas supporters.
