Nigeria Launches Livestock Facility to Enhance Animal Health

The Nigerian Government, through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), has commissioned a Strategic Animal Resting Facility in Jaba-Jaba, Maiha Local Government Area, Adamawa State. The facility was inaugurated by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, and the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Kaletapwa Farauta.

This facility is strategically located along the Nigeria-Cameroon border and serves as a temporary holding point for livestock in transit, where they can be inspected and subjected to necessary health and quarantine procedures. The initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria's capacity to prevent and control transboundary animal diseases, enhance disease surveillance, and improve biosecurity.

Sanusi Abubakar, the National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, emphasized the importance of effective utilization and sustainable management of the facility. This facility follows the recent commissioning of a similar facility at the Etung–Ikom border corridor in Cross River State, both part of L-PRES's broader efforts to modernize Nigeria's livestock sector.
