HURIWA Claims Uche Nnaji's Certificate Controversy Political

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has stated that the ongoing controversy regarding the academic records of former Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, is politically motivated. During a press conference in Abuja, HURIWA's National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Nnadozi Onwubiko, highlighted the need for transparency and urged that the investigation be handled by a neutral institution.

The group noted that the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), where Nnaji's records are in question, previously served as Chief of Staff to the former Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest. HURIWA emphasized that the investigation panel's reference to media reports does not confirm any allegations of certificate forgery against Nnaji.

They called for the university to conduct an independent review of the allegations and for the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are included in the investigation process.
