University of Nigeria Initiates Settlement Talks in Nnaji Case

Uche Nnaji's aide, Robert Ngwu, stated that the University of Nigeria Nsukka initiated settlement discussions in an ongoing legal dispute concerning Nnaji's academic records, contrary to reports suggesting that Nnaji himself initiated these talks. The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice H.J.

Yilwa, has adjourned the matter to July 8, 2026. Nnaji, who served as the Minister of Innovation and Science Technology until October 2025, has been embroiled in controversy regarding his academic qualifications, particularly allegations surrounding discrepancies in documents submitted during his ministerial screening.

The court has refused an application to regularize the filing process outside the prescribed timeline. Nnaji's legal team acknowledged the discussions regarding the settlement and requested an adjournment to consider the proposal.

The case stems from a suit filed by Nnaji, seeking a court order to compel the university to release his academic records amid public scrutiny and allegations of political motivations behind the controversy.
