Police Intensify Rescue Efforts After Priest Kidnapping

In the early hours of Sunday, a Catholic priest and another individual were kidnapped within the precinct of a church at Inoyi, Affa community, Udi local government area of Enugu state. A joint security team, including Police operatives, Forest Guards, and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, has intensified efforts to track the armed men responsible for the abduction of three persons.

During the operation, the security forces managed to close in on the suspects, leading to the abandonment of one victim, who was rescued unharmed. However, the assailants escaped with the remaining two victims.

In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has instructed the Area Commander of Oji-River and the head of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to enhance ongoing operations and deploy all available resources to secure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and apprehend the suspects. Additionally, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID) has been tasked with generating actionable intelligence to support the operation.
