Enugu Security Forces Capture Kidnap Suspects, Free Victims

Security forces in Enugu State apprehended three suspects linked to the August 2, 2026 attack on St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Inoyi-Affa, Udi LGA. The operation involved the Department of State Services (DSS), Army, Police, and Enugu State Forest Guard, resulting in the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, and 133 rounds of ammunition.

One suspect was neutralized during a gun duel. Governor Peter Mbah, represented by Secretary to the State Government Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, confirmed the release of two victims, Seminarian Lawrence Igbo and Mr. Emmanuel Onwudi, and stated that the ransom paid was fully recovered.

Mbah emphasized the state's commitment to security, warning that criminal activities would not be tolerated and that those who assist criminals would also face prosecution. He assured the public that the government would continue to enhance security measures to protect lives and property in Enugu State.
