Enugu Monarch Faces N2bn Lawsuit for Unlawful Detention

Cyril Ugochukwu Ezedozie has instituted a N2 billion lawsuit against Igwe Godwin Ndubueze Madu, the monarch of Enugu Achi Umumba Autonomous Community in Oji River Local Government Area. Ezedozie accuses Igwe Madu of malicious prosecution and unlawful detention, claiming he was jailed for 13 days on charges that included conspiracy to commit felony, cyberstalking, and defamation.

These charges were filed on June 5, 2025, and were later dismissed by the Enugu State High Court due to lack of evidence. Ezedozie alleges that during his detention at the Enugu Correctional Centre, he experienced humiliation and sub-human conditions.

Following a review by the Enugu State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, it was determined that there was insufficient evidence to support the cyberstalking charge. Ezedozie is seeking N2 billion in damages and a full-page apology published in a national daily.

The suit, dated August 24, 2026, has not yet been assigned a hearing date.
