Businessman Seeks ₦1bn Damages Over Harassment Claims

Ejike Mbamalu, the proprietor of Nnewi Auto Spare Parts, has approached the Federal High Court, Court 2, in Awka, seeking legal protection against alleged harassment and infringement of his fundamental rights. In the suit, numbered FHC/AWK/CS/355/25, he lists several respondents, including Chikwado Ejimbe (1st Respondent), Ernest Mgbonye (2nd Respondent), Ignatius Izuchukwu Okwudoro (3rd Respondent), Police Inspector Anselm Igbarago (4th Respondent), Sgt.

Gabriel Unagy (5th Respondent), the Anambra State Commissioner of Police (6th Respondent), the Inspector-General of Police (7th Respondent), and the Nigeria Police Force (8th Respondent). Mbamalu's counsel, T.S Arugbuonye, claims that his client's rights have been violated through repeated arrests instigated by the 1st Respondent.

The lawyer noted that Mbamalu had previously been discharged in a criminal case initiated by Ejimbe. Despite a court order for the release of impounded goods, many were allegedly damaged, causing financial losses.

The suit claims that Ejimbe continues to harass Mbamalu, threatening his business operations and violating his rights to freedom of movement and residence.
