Court Reinstates Prof. Igwe as Enugu Neuropsychiatric MD

The National Industrial Court in Abuja reinstated Prof. Mondai Igwe as the Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu, nullifying the appointment of Dr.

Ngozi Unaogu as the substantive head of the institution. Justice Emmanuel Danjuma Subilim delivered the judgment, stating that the termination of Prof.

Igwe's appointment was unlawful and did not follow due process. The court ordered his immediate reinstatement to complete his tenure and mandated the payment of his salary from the time of his suspension in September 2023 until December 2025, along with N3 million in damages for the trauma suffered due to his removal.

Prof. Igwe was suspended by the Federal Ministry of Health in September 2023 over allegations of misconduct.

An investigative panel later cleared him of the allegations and recommended his reinstatement, but the ministry did not comply, leading Igwe to seek judicial redress.
