Enugu Man Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Girlfriend

On September 21, 2026, the Enugu State Police Command arrested 39-year-old Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Chinyere. The incident reportedly occurred on September 19, when an argument over HIV allegations escalated, leading Emmanuel to strike Chinyere on the head with a pestle, resulting in her death.

He then wrapped her remains in a nylon bag and concealed them in the toilet of his apartment. The discovery of a foul odor from the decomposing body prompted neighbors to force open the door, apprehending Emmanuel before police arrived.

The police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that the remains were taken to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while efforts were underway to notify Chinyere's relatives. Emmanuel was initially rescued from an angry mob before being re-arrested by police operatives from the Awkunanaw Division.
