Enugu Police Identify Murder Victim Chinyere Ugwu

The Enugu State Police Command has identified the victim of an alleged murder as 27-year-old Chinyere Rosemary Ugwu, a graduate of Medical Laboratory Science from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, who recently completed her National Youth Service Corps programme. The suspect, Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, 30, was arrested following the incident at his residence in the Olympic Layout area of Enugu.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the argument between the couple was related to allegations concerning the source of a Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection. Emmanuel allegedly struck Ugwu on the head with a pestle, resulting in her death.

He then wrapped her body in nylon and concealed it in the toilet of his apartment. The body was discovered after neighbors noticed a foul odor.

The police have assured Ugwu's family, who have been interviewed, that justice will be served. Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa emphasized the need for public caution in relationships, particularly advising women to be vigilant about their safety.
