Enugu to Host South East Tax Ombud Headquarters

Enugu State is set to host the South East Tax Ombud headquarters, a move aimed at enhancing taxpayer support services and strengthening tax administration in the region. Dr.

John Nwabueze, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tax Ombud, disclosed this during a visit to Governor Peter Mbah at the Government House in Enugu. Nwabueze described Enugu as a major commercial and industrial hub, noting its potential to grow the economic revenue base.

The Tax Ombud office will provide a transparent, impartial, and efficient platform to resolve disputes between taxpayers and revenue authorities, encouraging voluntary tax compliance and reducing friction. Governor Mbah welcomed the development and pledged the state's support, including providing necessary facilities to position Enugu as the host for the regional headquarters.

The establishment of the Tax Ombud is mandated by the Joint Tax Board Establishment Act of 2025, which allows it to receive and resolve complaints related to tax levies, regulatory fees, customs duties, and excise matters.
