Carrick Dismisses Anderson's 'Kings of Manchester' Claim

Michael Carrick, the manager of Manchester United, rejected Elliot Anderson's assertion that Manchester City are the "kings of Manchester" prior to their derby match on Sunday at Old Trafford. Anderson, who transferred to Manchester City from Nottingham Forest for £116 million, made the claim following his arrival at the Etihad Stadium.

Carrick acknowledged United's recent struggles, with only one win from three Premier League games, while City has won their first four matches under manager Enzo Maresca. Despite United's lack of recent success compared to City, Carrick stated, “I’m definitely not using that phrase at all,” and expressed hope for improvement, referencing their third-place finish last season.

He highlighted the importance of their Champions League participation and the expectations that come with it. Maresca supported Anderson's view, attributing it to the success City has enjoyed over the past 15 years, including seven Premier League titles and a Champions League victory since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.
