Fernandes Regrets United's Missed Chance on Rice Transfer

Bruno Fernandes, the midfielder for Manchester United, expressed his disappointment regarding the club's failure to secure Declan Rice, who joined Arsenal for £105 million from West Ham in 2023. Fernandes acknowledged that he felt "really sad" about this missed opportunity, as he had previously contended that Rice would be a perfect fit for Manchester United.

In an interview with Joel Beya for the Football Writers' Association, Fernandes praised Rice, stating he has always admired him and recognized his qualities. He noted that they had maintained contact and trained together three years ago.

Rice has emerged as a key player for Arsenal under manager Mikel Arteta, contributing to the team's pursuit of their first Premier League title since 2004. Fernandes is currently enjoying a successful season himself, boasting 19 assists, just short of the record held jointly by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

He recently won the Football Writers' Association Men's Footballer of the Year award, narrowly surpassing Rice by just 28 votes.
