Dr. Ndukwe Celebrates Flutterwave's Global Expansion

Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, the board chairman of MTN Nigeria, celebrated Flutterwave's expansion across continents during its 10th anniversary gala held in Lagos.

Ndukwe reflected on Nigeria's digital evolution, noting the significant reforms initiated by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in the early 2000s that dismantled inefficient systems and opened doors for private sector innovation. He highlighted how the telecom revolution, which began in 2001, laid the groundwork for today's digital economy, enabling companies like Flutterwave to thrive.

Ndukwe praised Flutterwave for meeting global standards and demonstrating the strength of local enterprises when supported by the right policy environment. He cautioned that sustained expansion depends on strong institutional discipline and corporate governance.

Ndukwe urged Flutterwave's leadership to remain focused on scaling across markets while rewarding hard work and innovation. He acknowledged earlier pioneers in Nigeria's digital payment infrastructure, including John Obaro, founder of Systemspec, and creator of the Remita platform, whose groundwork strengthened the broader financial technology ecosystem.
