Okoronkwo Prioritizes WAFCON Win Over Individual Awards

Esther Okoronkwo, a forward for Nigeria's Super Falcons, stated that winning another Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title is more significant than any individual award. Okoronkwo, who overcame a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that sidelined her during the 2022 tournament, played a pivotal role in Nigeria's successful campaign at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco 2024.

She provided six assists, including a crucial assist for Jennifer Echegini's dramatic winner in the final against Morocco. Okoronkwo expressed pride in Nigeria's historic 10th WAFCON title, acknowledging the challenges faced by the team, including injuries to several players.

She emphasized the importance of teamwork and the special bond within the squad under head coach Justin Madugu. Okoronkwo remains focused on the team's collective success rather than individual recognition, stating that the main aim is to win and bring the trophy home.
