Super Falcons Aim for 11th WAFCON Title in Morocco

Esther Okoronkwo, a forward for Nigeria's Super Falcons, expressed the team's determination to retain their Women's Africa Cup of Nations title and achieve a record 11th championship in Morocco. The defending champions commenced their Group C campaign against debutants Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday, with upcoming matches against Zambia and Egypt.

Okoronkwo emphasized the importance of attitude and mentality in their pursuit of victory, stating, “We want to repeat history and win it again.” Nigeria has historically dominated the tournament, winning 10 of the previous 13 editions. The Super Falcons won the first five tournaments from 1998 to 2006, faced setbacks in 2008, 2012, and 2022, but reclaimed the title in 2024 WAFCON, defeating Morocco in the final.

Okoronkwo was instrumental in that victory, contributing two goals and six assists, leading the tournament in assists.
