EU and UNICEF Advocate for Enhanced Health Funding in Kwara

A delegation from the European Union, UNICEF, UNFPA, and the German Embassy visited Kwara State to review the progress of health interventions supported by the EU. Massimo Deluca, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation, stated that the mission aimed to evaluate progress after about a year of implementation, particularly in adolescent and maternal health.

He noted that the EU plans to expand its support while emphasizing the need for the Kwara State Government to invest in the health sector. UNICEF’s MNCH Manager, Martin Axel, praised the state for its leadership and accountability in implementing interventions, including community midwifery and the safer birth bundle care initiative.

Dr. Koessan Kuawu from UNFPA highlighted the partnership's tangible results, such as training health workers and equipping 150 health facilities. He stressed the importance of sustaining and financing these initiatives for long-term success.
