Doctors Suspended Over Death of Chimamanda Adichie's Son

The Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigative Panel (MDPIP) has suspended three senior doctors, including Dr. Tund Majekodunmi, the medical director of Euracare, and Dr.

Titu Ogundar, the chief medical officer at Atlantic Pediatric Hospital, following the death of 21-month-old Ivara Eseg, son of Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr. Ivara Eseg.

The suspension was enacted after a review of complaints alleging medical negligence and professional misconduct against the doctors involved in the child's care. The panel's decision came after a 25th session held at Excel Hotel Resort on February 17-18, 2026.

The doctors are accused of breaching their duty of care, including failing to preserve relevant evidence such as CCTV footage and electronic monitoring data. The child had developed sudden complications after undergoing a diagnostic preparatory medical procedure at Atlantic Hospital on January 7, 2026.

The doctors will remain suspended pending the outcome of the disciplinary tribunal's investigation.
