Atlantic Pediatric Hospital Defends CMD After Suspension

Atlantic Pediatric Hospital has issued a statement defending its Chief Medical Director, Atinuk Uwajeh, after he was suspended due to findings from a panel investigating the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Adichie Eseg, the son of Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) suspended Uwajeh following allegations of medical negligence during treatment.

The hospital confirmed it received a letter on February 25, 2026, regarding the suspension, which was delivered on March 5. The hospital expressed its commitment to maintaining high standards of pediatric care and stated that it would cooperate fully with the ongoing coroner's inquest into the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

Atlantic Pediatric Hospital has also acknowledged the pain experienced by the Adichie Eseg family and has committed to engaging constructively with relevant authorities to ensure transparency and proper determination of facts.
