EU Strengthens Partnership with EFCC on Anti-Corruption

The European Union (EU) has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing its partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Nigeria, particularly in anti-corruption, cybercrime, training, and financial crime investigation and prosecution. This commitment was expressed by the EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, during a courtesy visit to the EFCC's headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

Mignot emphasized the strategic importance of the EFCC for Nigeria's stability and prosperity, stating that strong institutions like the EFCC foster a compliant business environment for potential investors. He noted the longstanding partnership between the EU and the EFCC, which has been supported through the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme.

The EU plans to provide training for EFCC personnel on cybercrime response and is also enhancing support for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) compliance. Mignot highlighted the EU's ongoing efforts to deepen its partnership with Africa and mobilize European companies to invest in Nigeria.
