ECOWAS Anti-Corruption Protocol Operationalized by EFCC

Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), disclosed on Tuesday that ECOWAS anti-graft agencies have begun operationalizing a new anti-corruption protocol. This initiative aims to strengthen cross-border investigations, intelligence sharing, and asset recovery among West African nations.

The protocol was adopted during the annual general assembly of the West African Anti-Corruption Network held in October of the previous year. It facilitates the exchange of information and mutual support among member countries to track illicit financial flows and recover stolen assets.

Olukoyede emphasized Nigeria's leadership role in this effort, highlighting the importance of collaboration among anti-corruption agencies to tackle issues such as terrorism financing and illicit financial flows. The conference also addressed the need for enhanced cooperation against cross-border corruption, noting that crime increasingly transcends national boundaries, necessitating collective action.
