INEC Assures Valid Votes Will Count as Voter Registration Ends

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has committed to ensuring that every valid vote counts in the upcoming elections, as the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise comes to an end. The deadline for voter registration is set for July 26, 2026, which includes fresh registrations, transfers, corrections, and replacements of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

INEC had previously extended the registration period by two weeks to accommodate more eligible voters ahead of the 2027 elections. The CVR began with online pre-registration in August 2025, followed by physical registration.

The first phase concluded in December 2025 with 2,572,054 completed registrations. The second phase added 3,748,704 new registrations from January 5 to April 17, 2026.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, emphasized the commission's dedication to credible elections during a visit to Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) in Minna, Niger State. He urged public support for INEC's efforts, while advocates called for permanent voter registration to enhance electoral participation.
