Daura Critiques Sycophants in Buhari's Administration

Lawal Daura, who served as the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) during Muhammadu Buhari's presidency from 2015 to 2023, expressed concerns about the influence of sycophants in Buhari's government during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He stated that personal relationships and trust should not overshadow the competence of individuals appointed to public office.

Daura noted that while he was close to Buhari due to his role, he was not part of any cabal influencing decisions. He defended Buhari's administration against criticisms labeling it as the worst in Nigeria's political history, urging critics to consider the broader historical context from 1995 to 2023.

Daura, now the vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, asserted that he stood by Buhari and protected his government during his tenure, suggesting that issues arose after his departure in 2018. He advised future administrations to prioritize suitability over personal loyalty in appointments.
