Daura Claims Buhari Was Betrayed by Trusted Associates

Lawal Daura, the vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and former director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), stated in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today that former President Muhammadu Buhari was surrounded by questionable individuals who betrayed his trust. Daura argued that critics labeling Buhari's government as the worst in Nigeria's history should review the political history from 1995 to 2023.

He asserted that he remained close to Buhari and protected his administration, noting that issues began to arise after 2018 when he left office. Daura rejected claims of being part of a so-called cabal, stating that the intelligence chief cannot be involved in such groups due to the nature of the role.

He advised that personal relationships should not dictate public office appointments and emphasized the importance of evaluating individuals' qualifications and trustworthiness for their roles.
