Timipre Sylva Resigns from APC, Urges Vote Against Party

Timipre Sylva, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Bayelsa State from 2007 to 2012, resigned from the party on August 31, 2026. In his resignation letter, sent to the APC Ward 4 Chairman in Brass Local Government Area, Sylva expressed his inability to remain in a party whose leaders he accused of adopting a philosophy that “all is fair in politics.” He stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with family, associates, and sympathizers.

Sylva lamented the abandonment of the party's founding ideals and criticized the APC-led Federal Government for disappointing Nigerians. He described the party as a “floundering ship” and expressed confidence that Nigerians would use the next general election to change the political landscape.

Sylva also accused the EFCC of acting as an extension of the ruling party rather than an independent institution. He acknowledged that his resignation might lead to increased scrutiny or investigation, particularly as he is currently being tried in absentia for allegedly financing a coup against President Bola Tinubu's government, which he denies.
