EFCC Summons Timipre Sylva After APC Resignation

On August 31, 2026, former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva was summoned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning, just hours after he announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Sylva accused the EFCC of acting on behalf of the ruling party and described the APC as a "floundering ship" burdened by iniquities.

He has been declared wanted since November 2025 for alleged conspiracy and dishonest conversion involving $14,859,257. Additionally, he faces a 13-count federal charge related to treason, terrorism, conspiracy, and money laundering, with investigators linking him to an alleged plot against President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Sylva is identified as a principal financier of this plot, with approximately N785 million traced to him through Purple Waves Limited. In May 2026, an interim forfeiture order was granted over nine properties connected to him.

Sylva has denied all allegations, and no conviction has been recorded against him.
