Eyitayo Jegede Resigns from PDP Amid Leadership Crisis

Barrister Eyitayo Jegede, the former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, has officially resigned from the party, effective immediately, as stated in a letter dated August 7, 2026, addressed to Mr. Fabiyi Kole Adewale, the Chairman of Ward 11, Owode/Imagun Ward, Akure South Local Government Area. His resignation follows a prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP and the recent defection of several of his loyalists to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), including Hon. Balarabe Abiodun Akinwunmi, who is now the ADC candidate for the Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general election.

Jegede, who previously served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice under ex-Governor Olusegun Mimiko, has not disclosed his next political move but is expected to join the ADC, potentially preparing for another governorship bid in the 2028 election. His departure comes amid ongoing disputes within the PDP, with factions led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Kabiru Turaki vying for control.
