Eyitayo Jegede Resigns from PDP, Plans ADC Defection

Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), the former governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, officially resigned from the party on August 7, 2026. His resignation was communicated in a letter addressed to Fabiyi Kole Adewale, the Chairman of Ward 11, Owode/Imagun Ward, Akure South Local Government Area.

In the letter, Jegede stated that his resignation from the PDP was effective immediately. Jegede previously served as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice under ex-Governor Olusegun Mimiko and contested the governorship elections in 2016 and 2020 against the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), losing both elections.

Following his resignation, Jegede confirmed to The Nation that he would announce his next political move soon, with sources indicating that he is set to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and intends to run for the Ondo State governorship in the 2028 elections.
