Labaran Maku Joins SDP, Leaving PDP Ahead of 2027 Elections

Labaran Maku, the former Information Minister and Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, announced his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) during a press briefing alongside SDP officials in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area on Tuesday. Maku expressed his intention to contribute positively to the development of the state and the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He outlined his achievements in employment, empowerment, and infrastructure development during his tenure. Maku emphasized the need for good governance and democratic principles, urging residents to remain united and embrace peace.

He also submitted a resignation letter to the PDP chairman, citing ongoing crises within the party as a reason for his departure. Maku's move is expected to bolster SDP's support base, which already spans 13 local government areas in the state.

Moham Audu, the SDP zonal chairman for Nasarawa North Senatorial District, welcomed Maku and assured him of equal rights and privileges within the party.
