Division Over Eric Chelle's Proposed Salary Increase

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is currently negotiating a salary increase for Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle from $50,000 to $100,000 per month. This proposal has elicited mixed reactions among former players and fans.

Ex-international Sylvanu Okpala expressed skepticism about the increment, citing that Chelle did not secure a World Cup ticket and only managed to finish strong in the last AFCON. Mutiu Adepoju echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the NFF's capability to meet salary demands is uncertain.

Social media commentator Japhet Omojuwa criticized the timing of the proposed increase, arguing that there are no recent titles or achievements to justify such a raise. However, some fans defended Chelle, stating that the team's failures were not solely his fault.

Chelle's request for a salary of $130,000 aims to improve working conditions for himself and his technical staff. The NFF is reportedly unwilling to meet this demand and prefers to maintain a lower salary offer.
