Eric Chelle Seeks Salary Increase as Nigeria Coach

Eric Chelle, the head coach of Nigeria's senior national football team, has defended his request for a significant salary increase from $50,000 to $130,000 per month amid public criticism. During an appearance on the "Histoir de Foot" podcast, Chelle explained that the proposed amount is not solely for him but also to cover the salaries of his technical support staff.

He emphasized that coaching an African national team comes with the responsibility of ensuring that backroom personnel are adequately compensated. Chelle noted the immense pressure associated with leading a national team in a country with a population exceeding 250 million people, making it necessary to build a reliable team and maintain a professional support system.

He insisted that the national team coach requires a similar structure to perform effectively. Chelle described the ongoing contract discussions as part of a normal negotiation process, stating that his representatives aim to secure the best possible terms with the Nigeria Football Federation.
