Ex-Kwara SDP Governorship Candidate Resigns from Party Amidst Political Reflection

Hakeem Oladimeji Lawal, the former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kwara State, has officially resigned from the party. In a resignation letter dated January 27, 2026, shared on his official Facebook page, Lawal expressed gratitude to the SDP for allowing him to contest for the state's top political office.

He specifically mentioned the valuable experience and political exposure gained during his time as the party's governorship candidate. Lawal praised the party's leadership, particularly Alhaji Abdulazeez Afolabi, and acknowledged the support of party members during the election period.

Lawal emphasized that his decision to leave the party was a result of personal reflection and the need to review his political path in line with his future plans and wider political goals. He has not yet disclosed his next political move or whether he intends to join another party.

Lawal recently met with Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the Governor's residence in Admiralty Villa.
