Farouk Lawan Thanks Tinubu for Presidential Pardon Amid Scandal Conviction

Former lawmaker Farouk Lawan expresses gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for granting him a presidential pardon, along with 174 others. Lawan, a former member of the House of Representatives, described the gesture as renewing hope and faith in active citizenship.

The list of beneficiaries approved by the Council of State includes prominent figures like Herbert Macaulay and Mamman Vatsa. Lawan, known for his involvement in the 2012 fuel subsidy scandal, was convicted of demanding a bribe from Femi Otedola.

Video evidence of the incident sparked national outrage, leading to his prosecution by the ICPC. Lawan's sentence was initially seven years but later reduced to five years, with the Court of Appeal upholding the verdict in 2022.
