Ex-Lawmaker Calls for Peace Ahead of Osun Poll

Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, called for peace among political parties ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15. In a statement from Osogbo, he urged stakeholders to avoid violence and ensure a peaceful electoral process, asserting that no political ambition should lead to the loss of life.

Oyintiloye addressed rising political tensions, encouraging citizens to exercise their right to vote without fear. He reassured residents regarding the deployment of security personnel, stating it was a preventive measure rather than a cause for alarm.

He emphasized the need for calm, vigilance, and participation in the electoral process to sustain democracy. Oyintiloye condemned reports of violence and called for accountability for any law violations, urging government agencies to enhance public awareness and counter misinformation.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has cleared 14 political parties to participate in the election.
