Ortom Backs Tinubu for 2027 Election, Criticizes Alia

Samuel Ortom, the former Governor of Benue State, announced his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election during an interview on ARISE News. He stated he has no regrets about backing Tinubu, despite having voted for Labour Party candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 election.

Ortom's declaration coincided with Nyesom Wike's appointment as FCT Minister, and he emphasized his continued alignment with Wike's movement in Benue. In addition to his presidential support, Ortom expressed concerns regarding Governor Hyacinth Alia's administration, accusing him of undermining the rule of law, targeting political opponents, and failing to implement local government autonomy.

Ortom also mentioned that 23 government vehicles, which a court ordered to be returned to him and other former officials, had not been returned. He attempted to engage with Alia post-election but received no response.

Ortom plans to support preferred candidates for the Senate and the Benue State House of Assembly in the upcoming elections.
