Ex-NYSC DG Urges Youths to Build Careers Beyond Politics

Maj Gen Johnson Olawumi (retd), the former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, warned Nigerian youths against depending on politics as a means of livelihood. Speaking at a youth interaction event in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday, he advised young Nigerians to focus on building credible careers and acquiring valuable skills.

Olawumi highlighted that relying solely on politics can make individuals vulnerable to manipulation and pressure from political sponsors. He noted that many politicians who lack established careers outside of politics often struggle to remain relevant after leaving office.

He stressed that young people should first build something for themselves, as politics should not be their primary source of income. Olawumi clarified that his advice was not meant to discourage youth participation in politics but rather to encourage them to enter the political arena from a position of strength.
