Ex-Spain Coach Moreno Denies Using ChatGPT for Coaching at Russian Club Sochi

Former Spain coach Robert Moreno has denied allegations of using the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT for coaching during his tenure at Russian club Sochi. Moreno left Sochi in September 2025 due to poor results.

He refuted reports claiming heavy reliance on ChatGPT for match preparation and player selection, stating that such claims were false. Moreno emphasized his expertise in data analysis and video scouting, using tools like GP Wyscout and football analytics databases.

He highlighted his career progression from a technology job to coaching, with a focus on traditional football analysis methods. Moreno had temporary stints coaching Monaco, Granada, and the Spanish national team before Luis Enrique's full-time appointment in June 2019.

Moreno faced accusations of disloyalty from Enrique after taking charge during Enrique's absence due to his daughter's illness and subsequent death. The controversy arose from differing views on coaching methods and strategic plans.

Moreno's open letter to Spanish newspaper Marca aimed to clarify his coaching approach and refute claims of overreliance on AI tools like ChatGPT.
