Ex-Super Eagles Midfielder Henry Nwosu Dies at 62

Henry Nwosu, a former midfielder for the Super Eagles, died at the age of 62 after a five-day battle with illness at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja. His passing was confirmed by fellow ex-international Segun Odegbami via a Facebook post on Saturday.

Nwosu was widely regarded as one of Nigeria's influential midfielders, earning 60 caps and playing a central role in Nigeria's first-ever African Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph in 1980. He also represented Nigeria in the 1988 Summer Olympics and participated in multiple AFCON tournaments, finishing as a runner-up in 1984 and 1988.

Nwosu's club career included significant stints with New Nigeria Bank FC and ASEC Mimosas FC in Ivory Coast. After retiring as a player, he transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant to Samson Siasia during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where Nigeria won a silver medal, and later took on various coaching roles, including the Nigerian U-17 team and Union Bank FC.
