Ex-UK Ambassador Peter Mandelson Arrested for Misconduct

Peter Mandelson, the former British ambassador to the United States, was arrested by London's Metropolitan Police on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The 72-year-old was taken into custody in North London for questioning.

Justice Department last month indicated that Mandelson maintained contact with Epstein, including a transfer of $75,000 between 2003 and 2004 related to Mandelson's husband. The police have opened a criminal investigation following these revelations, which suggest that Mandelson may have passed sensitive government information to Epstein over a decade ago.

Mandelson, who was dismissed from his diplomatic post in September, does not face allegations of sexual misconduct. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed regret over Mandelson's appointment amid a serious crisis in his premiership.

Mandelson's arrest occurred just four days after Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, the former Prince Andrew, was arrested on similar charges related to his friendship with Epstein.
