UK MP Suspends Self After Husband's Spying Arrest

Joan Reid, a Labour Member of Parliament, announced her voluntary suspension from the party on Thursday after her husband, David Taylor, was arrested by UK police on suspicion of spying for China. Reid stated she would not sit as a Labour MP until the internal investigation concludes and expressed her willingness to cooperate with any inquiries.

The Metropolitan Police released a statement confirming the arrest of three individuals, including Taylor, who is listed as a lobbyist and works for Asia House think tank. Reid emphasized that she has not seen any suspicious behavior from her husband and maintains that he has done nothing wrong.

The arrests come amid rising concerns regarding Chinese espionage in the UK, a politically sensitive issue, especially following Labour leader Keir Starmer's recent visit to Beijing aimed at resetting relations with China. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has criticized the allegations as hype that misleads the public.
