Cybersecurity Expert Warns of Evolving Threats in Nigeria

Oluwol Asalu, Chief Executive Officer of Quomodo Systems Africa, highlighted the rapid evolution of cyber threats that outpace businesses' ability to respond effectively. During a discussion on Nigeria's digital shift, he raised concerns about the resilience of systems that underpin the economy, referencing recent cyber incidents affecting financial platforms and government-linked organizations.

Asalu noted a disconnect between the speed of emerging threats and firms' capacity to respond, stressing that Nigeria can no longer treat cyber events as isolated incidents. He pointed out that the current surge in attacks is driven by artificial intelligence (AI), enabling malicious actors to deploy tools that adapt in real-time.

Asalu criticized traditional cybersecurity approaches that rely on static defenses and routine patches, arguing they are insufficient against modern threats. He advocated for a shift towards predictive intelligence-led defense models, utilizing advanced analytics and machine learning to maintain operational continuity and enhance cybersecurity readiness.

He also emphasized the importance of developing indigenous expertise in AI security to reduce reliance on imported solutions.
