Hull City Fined £30,000 for Homophobic Chant Incident

Hull City has been fined £30,000 by the Football Association (FA) due to discriminatory chanting by supporters during their 4-0 FA Cup defeat against Chelsea on February 18, 2023, at the MKM Stadium. The club accepted the FA charge after fans were heard using a homophobic chant, prompting repeated warnings from the stadium’s public-address system and visual messages displayed on screens.

Following the incident, three individuals were arrested for the alleged chanting, and Hull City has banned three supporters for a minimum of three years. The FA charged the club for failing to ensure that its supporters refrained from using offensive, abusive, or insulting language related to sexual orientation.

Hull City condemned the chant as a recognized homophobic slur, warning that its use could be classified as a hate crime. The club urged supporters to avoid repeating the chant during their upcoming Premier League match at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
