Nigeria's Revenue Agencies Underperform Below 40% in December

In December 2025, the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) reported that all revenue-generating agencies in Nigeria fell short of the 40% performance benchmark. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) recorded the weakest remittance at just 0.38% of the expected revenue, contributing ₦9.79 billion.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) indicated that the total revenue collected during the month amounted to ₦2.585 trillion, significantly below expectations. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) performed slightly better at 22.94%, remitting ₦593.11 billion.

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) contributed ₦913.96 billion, representing 35.35% of expected performance. The report underscored a broader trend of underperformance in federal revenue collection, raising concerns about the efficiency and transparency of revenue generation across federal institutions, particularly regarding the NNPC's contributions, which fell below 1% of expected performance.
