FAAN Denies Aircraft Hijack Rumors at Akure Airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially dismissed rumors regarding an alleged aircraft hijack at Akure Airport, describing the claims as false and misleading. In a statement released on Monday, FAAN clarified that there was no indication of a hijack incident, urging the public to refer to official communications for accurate information.

The agency also addressed viral images circulating online, stating they do not represent any actual events at the airport. FAAN's Director of Public Affairs, Henri Agbebir, confirmed that four suspects were arrested in the vicinity of the airport following a coordinated security operation involving local security agencies, including Amotekun.

The arrests were made after a distress alert regarding suspicious individuals near the airport perimeter. FAAN commended the collaborative efforts among security agencies and local groups that led to the apprehension of the suspects.

The federal government is also working on enhancing airport security infrastructure nationwide.
