FAAN Moves to Enforce Port Charge Compliance at MMIA Cargo Terminal

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is taking steps to enforce compliance with port charges at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Cargo Terminal in Lagos. The move is aimed at enhancing transparency and boosting internally generated revenue.

Despite the port charge being in place for 18 years, FAAN has struggled to ensure that the mandatory fee is paid by cargo handlers, resulting in significant revenue losses. In a stakeholder meeting attended by key representatives from Nigeria Customs Service and ground handling companies, FAAN reiterated its commitment to deploying robust access control systems and electronic platforms to ensure compliance without disrupting cargo flow.

The initiative is part of FAAN's efforts to enhance accountability, maintain operational fluidity, and support Nigeria's competitiveness in the global air cargo market. FAAN's Managing Executive, Olubunmi Kuku, is leading the charge in implementing revenue assurance solutions and driving strategic partnerships to optimize revenue and efficiency in the aviation sector.
