Ondo Police Arrest Man for Faking Kidnapping Scheme

On July 5, 2026, the Ondo State Police Command received a report regarding the alleged kidnapping of 33-year-old Olawal Sikiru, who claimed to have been abducted while traveling to Igbara-Oke for work. Following the report, police initiated an investigation, deploying intelligence assets and conducting forensic analysis of the suspect's phone number.

The investigation revealed that Sikiru had orchestrated his own kidnapping and had successfully collected ₦50,000 as part of a ransom from his family. On July 7, 2026, he was arrested, and further investigation led to the apprehension of 23-year-old Agbelusi Ayomid, who was allegedly involved in the conspiracy.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, commended the anti-kidnap unit for their diligent work and warned the public against engaging in staged kidnappings, which divert critical security resources and cause emotional and financial hardship to families.
