Activists Threaten Legal Action Against NASS, Police Violence

On Wednesday, a coalition of activists including Femi Falana, Oby Ezekwesili, and Pat Utomi announced their intention to pursue legal action against the National Assembly and the Nigeria Police. This decision follows the police's deployment of tear gas and brute force against peaceful citizens protesting for electoral reforms.

The activists are part of the Movement for Credible Elections (MCE), which recently launched a campaign to advocate for a credible electoral framework for the upcoming 2027 elections. The group condemned the police's actions and urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and resolute in their demands for electoral reform.

The statement was made at the MCE's national secretariat, with various notable figures, including Usman Bugaje and Ayuba Wabba, also present, emphasizing the need for a collective effort towards achieving a popular electoral reform.
