Farouk Lawan Seeks Return to National Assembly Post-Jail

Farouk Lawan, a former member of the House of Representatives, is pursuing a return to the National Assembly following his conviction in a bribery case linked to the 2012 fuel subsidy scandal. Lawan, who chaired the House ad hoc committee investigating the fuel subsidy regime, was accused of demanding a $3 million bribe from billionaire businessman Femi Otedola to remove Zenon Petroleum from the list of firms indicted for fuel subsidy fraud.

After serving a prison sentence, he received presidential pardon in October 2025, completing a five-year jail term. With his civil and political rights restored, Lawan has successfully passed the screening process to emerge as the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency in Kano State, aiming to participate in the 2027 general elections.

In an interview, he stated that his experiences have taught him valuable lessons about life and destiny.
